Nicholas A. E. Stratas, Jr. (Nick)
Nick Stratas has been practicing law since 1984. He is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell which means that the whole law firm is rated the same. AV is the highest rating a lawyer can receive based upon the comments of other lawyers and Judges. Mr. Stratas is also a member of the prestigious Million Dollar Advocates Forum*.
Mr. Stratas has served on various professional, for profit and non-profit Boards. For example, he has served on the Tenth Judicial District Bar Board; Wake County Bar Board; Womens’ Center Board of Directors; the Neuro Fibromatosis of North Carolina Board and served as President; the Badger-Iredell Foundation Board and served as President. He has also served on various committees, such as the North Carolina State Bar Local Grievance Committee, Communications Committee and the History Committee of which he served as Chairperson. Additionally, he has served as Chair of a Litigation Committee from 1986 to 1990. Mr. Stratas has also coordinated and spoken at numerous Continuing Legal Education Programs attended by other lawyers as required by the North Carolina State Bar since 1985.
Mr. Stratas has been involved in the settlement and trial of various personal injury and wrongful death cases. Mr. Stratas practices primarily in the areas of serious personal injury and wrongful death cases arising out of automobile and other accidents as well as handling workers’ compensation cases. He also does medical malpractice and nursing home neglect and abuse cases. He is experienced in head trauma cases. His father a local psychiatrist, Nicholas Stratas, M.D. has been helpful in many of these cases and serves as a consultant to the firm. Additionally, Dr. Stratas has been present during many of the firm’s jury trials. Jury selection is crucial, and with his experience with psychiatry and people, Dr. Stratas is able to provide valuable insight to the lawyers of Stratas & Weathers into this process. It is the firm’s policy that two lawyers represent each client in jury trials. Even when they were doing defense work, the firm sent two lawyers to try jury trials. Having done defense work in the past helps Mr. Stratas represent victims more effectively.
Mr. Stratas receives many referrals from other lawyers, physicians and past and present clients. He understands people and is sensitive to their needs. He typically returns calls the same day. He is a forceful yet compassionate advocate.
Mr. Stratas is a member of the United States Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and two federal district courts as well as being admitted to practice in all North Carolina Courts. He is a member of the American Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Association, Wake County Bar Association, etc.
Mr. Stratas attended North Carolina State University graduating in 1980 after being selected to be in the top 3% of the graduating class. He was also President of the Blue Key Honor society and served as Student Government President. He attended law school at Campbell University, University of North Carolina and North Carolina Central University juggling his schedule to accommodate two surgeries and was selected for Law Review based on his grades and graduated with honors in 1984.
Mr. Stratas lives in Raleigh with his children and attends Hayes Barton United Methodist Church where he is a Sunday School teacher for the four year old class called the Donkeys. He enjoys sports, reading, antiques, going to the movies, being with family and friends, and volunteering. His first love in volunteering is working with children’s programs in and out of the court system. He has also assisted abuse victims for Interact. He currently enjoys volunteering and supporting Wee Care, a children’s enrichment program for preschool children that fosters the social, emotional and cognitive growth of children who are socially and/or economically at risk.
